The Information Governance Manager will provide support in the overall strategy and implementation of an Information Governance Program that promotes compliance with privacy, confidentiality, and information-security related laws and regulations around the globe, client requirements, and Firm goals and objectives. Will participate in the analysis and design of systems and processes relating to the lifecycle management of electronic data, with particular emphasis on systems evaluation, business process analysis and automation, the storage and protection of electronic data, records retention procedure development and implementation, privacy and security controls, and the review of proposed Firm Approved Repositories. Will help coordinate and manage information governance related projects and work in close collaboration with other departments and/or areas including Information Technology, Legal Risk Management and Business Services.
Responsibilities Essential Functions: - In partnership with the Global Director of Information Governance, establishes and implements a successful Information Governance Program that ensures compliance with legal, regulatory, financial and operational recordkeeping requirements
- Manages matter mobility function including transfer of electronic and physical client matter records associated with the arrival and departure of legal personnel
- Assists with the legal hold process and coordinates the identification, collection and production of potentially responsive information in compliance with established policy and procedures
- Works collaboratively with leadership and partners with Firm stakeholders to support the program globally, assess needs, identify gaps or areas of improvement, and recommend changes
- Assists with the development, application and maintenance of information governance polices, standards, procedures and guidelines
- Reviews, recommends, and proposes changes to information governance policies, processes, technology solutions, and training to ensure support for and compliance with the Firm’s Information Governance Program
- Assists with legacy data analysis, classification and disposition projects
- Works with the Information Technology Department to support information governance program goals and objectives, including data remediation projects and identify opportunities for process automation and technology solutions
- Identifies opportunities to promote and increase DMS usage, security and compliance across the Firm
- Assists with developing and implementing strategic communications to engage, educate and influence lawyers and staff about information governance policies and procedures
- Audits information governance and records management processes, including Firm Approved Repositories for accuracy and compliance with Firm policies
- Stays current with leading industry best practices and new developments in information governance and records management. Participates in continuing education, research, networking, and professional and industry organizations
- Performs other duties as assigned or required to meet Firm goals and objectives
Education/Training/Certifications Qualifications - Bachelor’s degree is required in information management, information technology, library science or related field
- Information Governance Professional (IGP) certification is desirable
- A data privacy qualification such as CIPM, CIPP/E and/or CIPP/US is a plus
Professional Experience - Minimum of 5 years of experience required, preferably in a law firm
- Functional expertise in information governance principles relating to managing, protecting and securing client matter information, and educating end users on ways to manage information in compliance with those principles
- Prior experience in creating and implementing polices and/or procedures related to information governance and electronic records management
Technical Skills - Proficiency in Microsoft Office products (Outlook, Word, Excel, Visio) required
- Experience in information governance related systems, including business analysis and functionality testing, required
- Experience with enterprise technology solutions used for the management of both physical and electronic information, such as iManage document management and records management systems
- Experience using relational databases such as SQL
- Ability to analyze data using a variety of data report tools, required
