Job Description

Overview: Austin Wildlife Rescue (AWR) seeks a creative, resourceful graphic designer with a passion for our mission to rescue, rehabilitate, and release native wildlife in Central Texas. You will join a team of enthusiastic nonprofit professionals raising awareness and resources to Keep Austin WILD. This is a contracted position for 2025, with the ability to extend beyond the year, as mutually agreed upon.

Hours: Maximum of 500 hours for 2025

Responsibilities/Duties:

  • Communications:
  • Execute strategies for social media, e-newsletters, and print communications
  • Maintain AWR website
  • Execute design and delivery of print and digital collateral: brochures, infographics, newsletters, videos, etc
  • Outreach & Public Relations:
  • Coordinate outreach/communication strategies and assist in the creation of presentations.
  • Draft and route press releases, and coordinate resulting media coverage
  • Development/Fundraising
  • Produce collateral and event production pieces for fundraising events, primarily our annual Caring for Critters Brunch & Auction (October)
  • Produce campaign materials for online campaign drives (email blasts, social media), primarily our annual spring Baby Shower and Year End campaign drives.

Requirements:

  • Skill/technical proficiency in layout, design and production of digital (web/email/social media) and print (brochures, newsletters) pieces.
  • Photo editing for size, resolution, color correction, touch up, etc. using Adobe Photoshop or other software.
  • Digital layout using Adobe InDesign or other.
  • Creation, manipulation, editing of vector graphics using Adobe Illustrator or other. Knowledge of graphics formats i.e. PNG, JPG, TIFF, EPS, etc and their application/usage.
  • General knowledge of professional printing processes .
  • Web Design /Development: skill in creating and editing web pages, minor coding. Current website platform is Squarespace.
  • Photography: Skill in photography – taking photos, composition/framing, editing
  • Creative talent/eye for design and presentation.
  • Contractor must provide their own equipment and software.

Preferences:

  • Nonprofit and/or wildlife/conservation experience
  • Mastery of: SquareSpace, Bloomerang, Harness
  • Video: Skill in shooting and editing high definition video, telling stories.
  • Email marketing: knowledge/skill in digital/email marketing platforms, i.e. technical skill and best practices for email blasts. Current Platform is Bloomerang.
  • Copywriting / composition: Skill in writing using best practices and effective marketing language.
  • Knowledge of Greater Austin media outlets
  • Fluency in Spanish is a plus

About:

Since 1977, Austin Wildlife Rescue (AWR) has rehabilitated and released orphaned, injured, and sick wild animals and educated the public to coexist with wildlife. In 2025, AWR expects to take in over 10,000 wild animals for care (300+ species) from over 30 Texas counties.
