The successful candidate for this position will be a 1099 contractor with Music Ministry International and be responsible for the following:
1.1 BACKGROUND
The United States Coast Guard Training Center (TRACEN) Yorktown Chapel requires the services of an Organist/Pianist to perform during both Roman Catholic and Protestant worship services, as well as special program events. This project aims to provide continuous musical support for religious services at the Olde Yorke Chapel, enhancing the spiritual experience of Coast Guard personnel and their families. The organist/pianist will play a crucial role in coordinating with the TRACEN Command Chaplain to select appropriate music for scheduled worship services and special events, ensuring that the musical selections align with the liturgical calendar and the needs of the diverse faith community. This project is part of the broader mission of the U.S. Coast Guard to support the spiritual well-being of its members, recognizing the importance of religious services in maintaining morale and providing pastoral care, and is essential in meeting the diverse needs of the TRACEN Yorktown community.
1.2 SCOPE
The United States Coast Guard Training Center (TRACEN) Yorktown Chapel requires the services of an Organist/Pianist to perform during both Roman Catholic and Protestant worship services, as well as special program events. The musician will provide musical accompaniment at the Olde Yorke Chapel for approximately 156 regular worship services annually, including weekly Sunday Protestant and Roman Catholic services, and up to 34 special services as directed by the Command Chaplain. The musician will coordinate with the TRACEN Command Chaplain to select appropriate music, provide musical accompaniment before, during, and after services, advise on music materials, and work with chaplains to plan and execute special programs. The musician must be proficient in playing various musical styles, including classical, contemporary, and sacred music. Services will be performed at the U.S. Coast Guard Training Center Yorktown Chapel in Yorktown, VA, for a base period of one year with four one-year option periods. The US Coast Guard TRACEN will not provide lodging, food, or relocation expenses.
2.0 SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS/TASKS
2.1 TASK ONE. Provide musical accompaniment for Protestant and Roman Catholic religious services.
2.1.1 Coordinate with TRACEN Command Chaplain in the selection of music and provide that music for scheduled worship services and selected special worship services. As requested by the chaplain leading the service, provide music for ten (10) minutes before, during, and five (5) minutes after worship services.
2.1.2 Advise and recommend music materials needed for the music programs.
2.1.3 Work with the chaplains (volunteers and contract personnel of services for which there is no chaplain) of both Roman Catholic and Protestant services in the planning, practice, and execution of special programs.
2.1.4 The Musician must be available for approximately one hundred and eleven (111) regular worship services, including the weekly 8:45 a.m. Sunday Protestant Worship Service and 10:00 a.m. Sunday Roman Catholic mass and one additional hour for reconciliation. This includes up to (17) additional Holy Days of Obligation as prescribed by the Roman Catholic Archdiocese or special services (TBD).
4.2 PERIOD OF PERFORMANCE
The period of performance for this contract is a one-year base period with up to four additional one-year option
4.3 PLACE OF PERFORMANCE
The musician shall perform these services at the US Coast Guard Training Center Yorktown Chapel, 1 US Coast Guard Training Center, Yorktown, VA 23690. The US Coast Guard TRACEN will not provide lodging, food or relocation expenses.
4.4 HOURS OF OPERATION
Musicians must generally perform all work between the hours of 0830 and 1200 EST on Sundays. Other weekday times may apply when they are designated Holy Days of Obligation by AMS.
