At Crystal Sonic, we are developing state-of-the-art technologies that will lower cost, reduce waste and solve the supply gap for next generation semiconductor substrate materials. By harnessing the power of sound, our core technology, Sonic Lift-off, cuts wafers with no material loss, enabling their re-use. We are a passionate team of scientists, engineers, and entrepreneurs committed to shaping the future of semiconductor manufacturing, accelerating the emergence of more efficient, more powerful devices across a variety of applications. We are looking for a skilled Senior Acoustic Engineer with a strong background in acoustic system development, signal processing with hands-on design and fabrication experience. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of the physics of sound-matter interactions and experience in working with large-scale, high-power acoustic array systems.
Primary responsibilities of the position include:
- Own the strategy, design, and implementation of the company’s next generation acoustic hardware sub-components.
- Design, model, and test acoustic phased arrays and systems ensuring optimal performance, efficiency, and signal fidelity.
- Build and test phased arrays, conducting performance assessments to ensure they meet design specifications, including sensitivity, frequency response, and power handling.
- Implement advanced signal processing methods to improve the control, amplification, and manipulation of acoustic signals.
- Develop techniques for embedding transducers and sensors into complex acoustic structures to enhance system capabilities.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (e.g., electrical, mechanical, and process engineers) to integrate various components into fully functional equipment.
- Support the entire Crystal Sonic team with technical analysis, reports and graphical representations of data collected to facilitate decision making within the team.
- Perform key tasks in service of our deliverables and milestones as part of our funded research contracts.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Bachelor's in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field. Master’s or Ph.D. with emphasis in acoustics preferred.
- 5+ years of experience in acoustic engineering, with a focus on array systems, signal processing, transducer design, and/or composites.
- Experience designing and fabricating acoustic phased arrays, including the development of matching layers and backing materials for optimized performance.
- Proven experience with signal processing techniques such as beamforming, adaptive filtering, noise reduction, and time-frequency analysis.
- Proficiency in simulation and signal processing software (e.g., MATLAB, Python, COMSOL, LabVIEW, ANSYS).
- Ability to thrive and adapt within a dynamic start-up environment and able to handle uncertainty.
- Knack for problem-solving and troubleshooting.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Curiosity and willingness to learn new skills.
