Purchasing Manager (Temp/Temp-to-Hire - Medical Leave Coverage)
Location: Culver City, CA (Fully Onsite, Monday-Friday 8am-5pm)
Pay Rate: $40-$60/hr (DOE)
About the Opportunity
Our client, a leading construction company, is seeking a Purchasing Manager to support the team during a leave of absence. This is a long-term temporary role with the possibility of the role turning into a temp-to-hire position.
This position is fully in-office at the Culver City headquarters and plays a crucial role in sourcing and purchasing all building materials for ongoing residential construction projects. The ideal candidate will have experience in the homebuilding or residential construction industry and be confident working directly with vendors, subcontractors, and cross-functional teams.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage the purchasing of all building materials required for assigned homebuilding projects
- Prepare and distribute bid packages for new builds, revisions, and plan updates
- Review, compare, and evaluate all bids against specifications and project requirements
- Maintain an updated master bid list, onboarding new vendors and subcontractors as needed
- Negotiate pricing and contract terms to ensure competitive cost structures
- Issue and process contracts, purchase orders, and documentation
- Support Construction, Land Development, Design, Forward Planning, Sales, and Customer Care with timely updates and information flow
- Communicate pricing and material changes to internal stakeholders
- Administer contract timelines and ensure compliance with the scopes of work
- Conduct cost analysis, manage budget revisions, and review plan change impacts
- Prepare month-end budget reports, including spend, variances, and change orders
- Participate in field walks to identify cost savings, specification changes, or quality improvements
What You'll Bring
- 3-5+ years of purchasing or procurement experience within residential construction or homebuilding (highly preferred)
- Strong knowledge of construction materials, methods, and subcontractor scopes of work
- Proven ability to negotiate effectively and manage vendor relationships
- Experience preparing bids, evaluating proposals, and managing contracts
- Professional, assertive communication style with the ability to work closely with various subcontractors and internal departments
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Supply Chain, Business, or related field (highly preferred but not required with strong experience)
- Experience with HB1 or similar systems is a plus
