Salary Range: $120,000.00 - $146,700.00

Position Summary

The Division of Liver Transplantation and Hepatobiliary-Pancreatic Surgery at Weill Cornell Medicine is seeking a motivated Physician Assistant to join our dynamic multidisciplinary team. This position offers a diverse and rewarding experience including 2-3 days per week in the operating room assisting in complex liver and pancreas procedures, as well as active involvement in outpatient clinical care. The PA will work closely alongside another experienced surgical PA and the attending surgeons to provide seamless, team-based care across the continuum-from pre-operative evaluation to postoperative follow-up. This role provides a unique opportunity to be part of the one nation’s leading academic liver and pancreas surgical programs while developing advanced surgical and perioperative skills in a collaborative environment.

The PA is be considered the nucleus of the team that would coordinate all aspects of the patient's care preoperatively and postoperatively while managing their postoperative course and trouble-shooting any issues or complications that could arise in the outpatient setting.

Educational opportunities are available with CME conferences, weekly departmental meetings, and participation in the Liver Tumor Board by organizing and presenting complex cases in a multidisciplinary setting.

Job Responsibilities

  • 2-3 days per week in the OR, assisting in robotic hepatectomies and transplant surgeries along with dedicated liver/transplant surgical team
  • Serve as the central coordinator of patient care, managing preoperative evaluations, transplant workups, and postoperative recovery.
  • Act as the key liaison between inpatient and outpatient teams, ensuring smooth transitions for patients before and after surgery.
  • Conduct thorough patient assessments, including histories and physical exams, and develop personalized care plans in partnership with supervising physicians.
  • Educate and support patients and families, answering questions and guiding them through complex treatment plans.
  • Coordinate diagnostic testing, specialty consultations, and follow-up care.
  • Assist with clinical trial coordination along with research coordinators.
  • Triage new patients, gather and summarize medical records, and prepare cases for multidisciplinary review.
  • Organize and present cases at the Liver Tumor Board, contributing to collaborative decision-making.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program
  • New York State Registered Physician Assistant (PA) license and registration
  • Approximately 2 years of work experience preferred but not required
  • Strong anatomical and surgical knowledge
  • Current New York State Physician Assistant License & Registration
  • Current National Commission Certified Physician Assistant (NCCPA)
  • BLS certification, issued by the American Heart Association
  • Current ACLS or PALS (if applicable)
  • If applicable in assigned area, DEA registration number
