Paving Equipment Operator

Location/Onsite: Albemarle, NC | Onsite, Travel Required

Our client, a trusted leader in highway construction, is seeking an experienced Paving Equipment Operator to join their paving crew serving the Stanly, Rowan, and Davidson County areas of North Carolina.

A Typical Day as a Paving Equipment Operator:

You will play a crucial role on the paving crew by operating and maintaining the asphalt paver to ensure high-quality road surfaces at various construction sites. Your expertise will help achieve the correct depth, grade, and finish while maintaining strict safety standards and meeting production goals. You’ll work alongside a team that values professionalism, precision, and getting the job done right the first time.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Operate asphalt paver safely to meet project requirements and production targets
  • Adjust equipment settings to control asphalt depth, grade, and cross-section
  • Collaborate with the paving crew to lay asphalt and assist in other tasks as needed
  • Conduct routine equipment inspections, cleaning, and minor repairs
  • Report any major maintenance needs to supervisors
  • Adhere to safety protocols, wear proper PPE, and promote a safe work environment
  • Stay aware of surroundings, including team movements and equipment activity
  • Be flexible with scheduling, including nights, weekends, and extended shifts
  • Willingness to travel and stay overnight as required

Requirements & Qualifications:

  • Minimum 3 years of paving equipment operation experience, preferably in road, highway, or bridge construction
  • Solid understanding of heavy equipment operations and safety procedures
  • Ability to perform basic maintenance and troubleshoot minor equipment issues
  • Physically capable of lifting 50–90 lbs, standing for long periods, and working outdoors in various conditions
  • Comfortable working around heavy machinery and construction materials
  • Adaptable to changing job sites, hours, and travel demands
  • Reliable transportation to/from the Albemarle office or job locations
  • Willingness to perform manual labor as needed
  • Able to work independently and as part of a professional team

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Valid driver’s license
  • Class B or higher CDL, or willingness to obtain Class A
  • Experience with automated controls on paving equipment
