ABOUT THE CLASSROOM SUPPORT SPECIALIST ROLE:

Reporting to the Campus Director, a Classroom Support Specialist is an essential part of providing our learners with social and emotional support. The Classroom Support Specialist works closely and assists Facilitators in planning and implementing learning experiences that promote intellectual, social, emotional and physical development in a safe and healthy environment. We are seeking a dedicated and dynamic Classroom Support Specialist to support the academic, behavioral, and social development of middle school learners. This position also includes responsibilities as a co-facilitator, collaborating with classroom facilitators to deliver instructional support and assist with classroom management. Additionally, the Classroom Support Specialist will serve as a substitute facilitator when needed, ensuring that classroom activities continue smoothly in the absence of the primary instructor.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Classroom Support Responsibilities:

● Model appropriate language, interactions, and positive behavior

● Assist the classroom facilitator with daily instructional activities, ensuring that learners are actively engaged.

● Provide individualized or small group support to learners who need additional help with lessons, assignments, or behavior management.

● Supervise learners during classroom activities, lunch, recess, and other school functions, ensuring a safe and positive learning environment.

● Serve meals or run register during lunch times when needed (training provided)

● Help learners with special needs or learning disabilities by implementing accommodations or modifications as directed by the facilitator.

● Support the organization and setup of classroom materials, resources, and learning tools.

● Monitor learner progress and provide feedback to the facilitator regarding learner performance, participation, and any concerns.

Co-Teaching Responsibilities:

● Collaborate with the classroom facilitator to plan, implement, and adjust lessons that meet the diverse needs of learners.

● Co-facilitate lessons, supporting learners’ learning in both individual and group settings.

● Utilize effective instructional strategies to enhance learner engagement and understanding of academic concepts.

● Assist in maintaining an inclusive classroom environment, fostering collaboration and active participation among all learners.

● Assist with classroom management, implementing behavior strategies as needed to maintain a positive learning environment.

Substitute Teaching Responsibilities:

● Step in as a substitute facilitator during the absence of the classroom facilitator, following lesson plans, and ensuring that learners continue their learning with minimal disruption.

● Manage the classroom by maintaining learner behavior and adherence to school rules and policies.

● Adapt lessons as needed to suit learners' needs while maintaining educational objectives.

● Communicate with school leadership and teaching staff regarding learner progress, concerns, and any issues that arise during substitute teaching sessions.

Other Responsibilities:

● Provide ongoing support and actively collaborate with Campus Director and employees to ensure that the mission, vision, values and philosophy of the Organization is clearly understood and carried out

● Represent in a positive and professional manner in all interactions and communications.

● Follow and actively participate in development of school’s guidelines, policies and procedures

● Maintain professional competence through participation in professional development activities provided by the school and self-selected professional growth activities

● Perform other responsibilities as defined by Campus Director

● Ability to work well and deal tactfully with administrators, employees, parents, learners and the public

● Assist with dismissal procedures including directing parent car traffic, ensuring safety of learners as they get into their cars, follow dismissal procedures for a safe and efficient dismissal process

QUALIFICATIONS

● Education:

High school diploma required; associate degree or higher in education or a related field preferred. Substitute Authorization from the Colorado Department of Education is required or able to be obtained by the end of first semester.

● Experience:

Previous experience working with middle school-aged learners in an educational or mentoring role is preferred.

● Skills:

○ Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to collaborate effectively with facilitators, learners, and school staff.

○ Patience, empathy, and a passion for working with children.

○ Classroom management skills, including strategies for supporting learners with diverse learning needs.

○ Flexibility and adaptability to meet the changing needs of learners and the classroom environment.

Additional Requirements :

● Ability to step into a substitute facilitating role with minimal direction.

● Knowledge of educational technology and tools to support instruction and learning.

● Commitment to fostering an inclusive, supportive, and respectful classroom environment.
