The Raise Your Banner Foundation is looking for a volunteer to fill its General Counsel position. The Raise Your Banner Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that seeks to break down the stigma surrounding mental health through care, advocacy, and education. Our immediate goal is to open the first ever “lounge” in Washington DC that will provide mental health support and education to the public.
We are looking for a volunteer to assist in growing our foundation with an expected commitment of 5-20 hours a month. This position will transition to a part-time or full-time paid position upon funding availability.
This is a fully remote position with occasional travel within the Washington DC and Northern VA area for foundation events.
Position Summary RYBF is seeking an experienced and caring lawyer to fill our General Counsel position. As General Counsel, you will provide ongoing legal support to the foundation. You will also serve as the subject matter expert in all legal matters and as the primary liaison for all legal matters for the foundation. Your role will focus on ensuring our advocacy efforts are in full compliance with all required laws and statutes.
Responsibilities -Provide counsel and advice on all legal matters affecting the foundation.
-Ensure that the foundation is in compliance with all governing laws and regulations.
-Coordinate and advise with the Executive Director and Board of Directors on legal matters.
-Advocate on behalf of the foundation in court or before any regulator bodies.
-Review applicable fundraising/grant documentation to determine eligibility.
-Contribute directly to the foundation's overall strategic goals.
Qualifications -Have a passion for advocating for and supporting mental health initiatives.
-J.D. or L.L.M. from an accredited law school. District of Columbia of Bar admission and license.
-Ability to identify legal issues, evaluate legal risks, and offer solutions.
-Ability to communicate well with others and build strong relationships with foundation and community partners.
-Outstanding management skills, ability to meet and complete deadlines and work with numerous partners.
-Excellent writing, editing, and verbal communication skills.
-High level of professionalism and discretion when talking to executives, staff, and donors.
-Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
