Spotted Lanternfly - Forestry Aid
The Tennessee Department of Agriculture, Plant Certification Division is seeking a seasonal employee for Spotted Lanternfly management and prevention initiatives. This position is responsible for surveying, trapping, and reporting results for spotted lanternfly within the designated work area. Spotted Lanternfly Trapping Season is from March – November and this position has a flexible working schedule. This position is designated a Forestry Aide 1 within the Tennessee Department of Agriculture but reports to the Consumer and Industry Services Division.
Location: Davidson and Surrounding Counties.
Major Duties:
Spotted Lanternfly Surveys:
•Perform regular field inspections in targeted areas to detect signs of Spotted Lanternfly Presence.
•Identify and document life stages (eggs, nymphs, adults) of Spotted Lanternflies on host trees and vegetation.
•Record and collect relevant data and report findings to supervisor.
Set and Maintain Traps:
•Circle Traps detect the presence of nymphs and adults. Placed in late March and checked every two weeks till frost.
•Lampshade traps and Sconce Traps are place in August and monitor for egg masses.
Other duties may be assigned based on needs and interest.
Education:
•Applicants must possess a High School Diploma.
•Certified Pesticide Applicators License preferred but not required.
Essential Knowledge and Required Skills:
•Ideal candidates must have the ability to work independently.
•Ideal candidates must be able to read and navigate with maps.
•Must possess a valid Driver’s License and vehicle (milage reimbursed).
Comments:
•A Forestry Aide can work a maximum of 1,400 hours per year from initial hiring date. The survey is year-round. Flex time is allowed, with the possibility to work 10 hours per day, 2-4 days a week, or a minimum of 5 hours each day worked depending on travel time to survey locations

•This position primarily works independently and outdoors but will work with Tennessee Department of Agriculture crews occasionally
