Job Description

POSITION OVERVIEW

Fenton Ballet Theatre is seeking a passionate and experienced Dance Instructor to teach Hip-Hop, Tap and Jazz (Primary, Beginner and Intermediate levels) classes starting fall of 2025. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in dance education, particularly with young children, and will be committed to fostering a love for dance in a nurturing and structured environment. This role requires creativity, patience, and the ability to engage young dancers while adhering to the studio's curriculum and standards.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Instruction

  • Teach dance classes, focusing on foundational ballet techniques, creative movement, and age-appropriate choreography.
  • Instruct Primary Tap and Jazz classes, introducing basic tap and jazz steps, rhythms, and combinations suitable for young dancers.
  • Develop and implement lesson plans that align with Fenton Ballet Theatre's curriculum and the American Ballet Theatre ® National Training Curriculum.
  • Utilize effective teaching methods to engage and motivate students, fostering an appreciation for dance.

Student Development

  • Observe and assess students' progress, providing constructive feedback to students and parents.
  • Encourage proper technique, posture, and alignment to ensure safe dance practices.
  • Prepare students for participation in recitals, performances, and potential advancement within the studio's programs.

Communication & Collaboration

  • Maintain open and professional communication with parents regarding students' progress, class schedules, and upcoming events.
  • Collaborate with fellow instructors and the Artistic Director to ensure consistency in teaching methods and curriculum implementation.
  • Participate in staff meetings, workshops, and professional development opportunities as required.

Studio Responsibilities

  • Ensure that the dance studio is a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for all students.
  • Enforce studio policies and dress codes, addressing any issues promptly and professionally.
  • Assist with studio events, performances, and community outreach programs as needed.

HOURS & COMPENSATION

  • Part-time position, approximately 5-10 hours per week, with potential for additional hours based on class enrollment and studio needs.
  • Classes are primarily scheduled in the afternoons and early evenings, Monday through Thursday, with occasional weekend commitments for performances and events.
  • compensation: $25/hour

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS

  • Proven experience teaching dance to young children, particularly in ballet, tap, and jazz disciplines.
  • Strong understanding of child development and age-appropriate teaching methodologies.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to connect with students and parents effectively.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team-oriented environment.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development and a passion for the art of dance.

LOCATION

  • Position based at Fenton Ballet Theatre, 3309 West Silver Lake Road, Fenton, MI 48430.
  • On-site presence required during scheduled class times and for studio events.
