Job Title: Controller

Reports To: CEO

We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Controller to join our team. This position plays a crucial role in overseeing and managing the Credit Union’s fiscal record-keeping systems while ensuring compliance with industry regulations. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in accounting and finance, with the ability to implement processes that enhance operational efficiency and financial performance. This is a leadership role that requires exceptional analytical and organizational skills, along with a commitment to ensuring outstanding service to both internal and external members.

Key Responsibilities:

• Oversee and maintain the general ledger system, ensuring accuracy in financial transactions and reporting.
• Manage Fixed Assets System, Accounts Payable System, and FISERV Portico system to ensure data integrity and accuracy.
• Ensure compliance with GAAP and FASB standards, staying up-to-date with changes and communicating updates to relevant stakeholders.
• Develop, implement, and maintain policies and procedures to support accurate financial reporting and effective accounting operations.
• Prepare and manage quarterly regulatory requirements, including NCUA 5300 Call Report and related work papers.
• Process and manage the CECL calculation, assist CEO with Credit Union investments, and approve consumer and mortgage loans.
• Perform liquidity analysis and monitor daily cash flow to support the Credit Union’s minimum liquidity needs.
• Maintain records of Credit Union investments, ensuring proper classification and compliance with internal policies and GAAP.
• Assist with the preparation of monthly financial packages, quarterly ALM packages, and financial presentations for the Board of Directors.
• Collaborate with the CEO and office manager to gather essential records for outside auditors and support auditors during on-site examinations.
• Lead the preparation of annual budgets and projections, based on input from management and the Board.
• Assist in the development and execution of new processes and procedures to streamline and automate accounting operations.
• Provide support and backup to the CEO as needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the CEO.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Finance or Accounting from an accredited institution.
• Strong understanding of GAAP, FASB standards, and state and federal banking regulations.
• Proficient in financial software and accounting systems (experience with FISERV Portico is a plus).
• Exceptional organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across departments and communicate effectively with senior management and team members.
• High level of attention to detail and the ability to solve complex financial problems.
• Ability to work independently and make decisions based on sound financial judgment.

Preferred:

• CPA or equivalent professional certification (or in progress).
• Experience in financial reporting, budgeting, and forecasting for a Credit Union or similar financial institution.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other accounting software programs.
