Job Description

The need has arisen to recruit a proven Controller/VP Finance to manage and optimize the accounting and finance responsibilities of a profitable privately held company. We are seeking an accounting & finance executive with proven experience serving as a senior accounting and finance leader (Controller, VP Finance, lower middle market CFO, etc.) with experience in the distribution sector. This CFO must be able to provide both strategic and tactical leadership for all accounting and finance responsibilities of the company. This executive will have the opportunity to advance the accounting, controls, reporting and overall financial responsibilities of the company to the next level of success and capability.

The Controller will closely with the CEO and serve as a member of the executive team, aiding in all strategic planning and operating leadership for the company. This position is a “hands-on / roll-up the sleeves” role, managing a limited staff and the CFO must be committed to “doing the doing” as well as providing broader strategic responsibilities. We seek an executive that can be a “right arm” to the CEO by freeing him up to focus on growth strategies and evaluate potential new acquisitions.

Responsibilities

The Controller/VP Finance will have full responsibility for the financial performance, reporting, control, and compliance of the Company. He/She will implement financial strategies and policies throughout the Company and closely monitor financial performance. The person will also assume the responsibilities for strategic and personnel change in their department when or if necessary. The Company desires to improve department performance, company growth, and to cultivate a cohesive culture.

The primary responsibilities include:

· Perform cost accounting.

· Prepare the annual budget and review with the CEO.

· Prepare and distribute financial materials to the CEO.

· Analyze all financial data and make recommendations in the best interest of improving Company performance.

· Establish appropriate reports and controls to ensure accurate measurements of performance.

· Direct and perform all accounting functions, including bank reconciliations.

· Manage department personnel, hiring, firing, performing routine reviews and enhancing individual and department performance.

· Work with the Company’s outside tax compliance professionals to ensure they have all necessary information within reasonable time prior to all deadlines.

· Ensure Company is current on all tax payments and all other vendor obligations.

· Participate in matters related to potential acquisitions.

· Ensure the Company complies with all financial obligations in a timely manner.

· Personally review all financial matters and bring the owner’s attention to any financial obligation or matter that appears to not serve the best interests of the Company.

· Lead/participate in determining the scope, selection, and implementation of new accounting/controls software as needed.

· Perform other duties as assigned.

Reporting Relationship

The Controller reports to the CEO and is part of the senior management team.

The Candidate

Education

An undergraduate degree in accounting is required. An advanced degree, MPA, or MBA is preferred but not required. A CPA, CMA or CFA is preferred but not required.

Professional Qualifications

· Minimum Ten (10) years’ experience in accounting, finance, or controller positions within a distribution company or related enterprise, privately owned preferred.

· Direct experience within a product environment, in a high-growth environment.

· Some public accounting experience highly preferred.

· Minimum of 5 years management/leadership responsibilities.

· Unquestionable honesty and integrity in all matters related to Company endeavors.

· Highly motivated to add value to the Company.

· Stable employment history.

· Professional recommendations from prior or current subordinate, peer, and superior working relationships.

· Must be able to maintain the highest level of confidentiality in all matters.

· Must be willing and able to travel to and from Company facilities.

· Excellent computer skills.
