Russell Tobin is seeking a Reactor Room Chemical Technician (Night Shift) for a leading flavor and fragrance supplier in Danbury, CT.

Job Title: Reactor Room Chemical Technician

Location: Danbury, CT (on-site)

Job Type: Direct Hire

Shift 2: Sun – Tue, 6:00pm – 6:30 am (Wed) (Additional shift differential included)

Shifts are on a fixed scheduled of three, twelve hours shifts (3×12) a week.

Salary Range: $52K - $56K/year

Overview:

Under direct supervision, this function conducts processing operations related to production of organic chemicals using synthetic chemical methods and related support systems. Duties may include transporting, weighing, pumping, mixing, cooling, heating and analysis of various chemical substances, completion of batch process documentation and administrative tasks. Warehouse specific duties include material drum movement within production and receiving departments.

Responsibilities:

  • Sets up and adjusts reactor room equipment. May operate heating, cooling, vacuum and pressure systems.
  • Cleans reactor room equipment and prepares equipment for next process.
  • Transports, weighs, pours, blends, mixes, pumps and packs chemical materials with attention to regulatory requirements and safety regulations. Follows adulteration control standards.
  • Controls process parameters through proper adjustments of feed rates, cooling and/or heating.
  • Operates dolly, pallet jack, and/or forklift in loading and unloading supplies and equipment.
  • Monitors of process parameters to ensure product quality and lot consistency.
  • Maintains stock levels of RR supplies to ensure availability.
  • Moves waste drums from the Reactor Room to the Waste Room.
  • Handles empty drums for reuse and manage dirty drums for disposal.
  • Coordinates NPS pickups.
  • Maintains cleanliness by managing trash bins and other waste materials.
  • Maintains department database, prepares routine reports, and files shipping/receiving records.
  • Maintains all necessary production, safety, inventory, training and other records and/or logs as required, in written and /or computer format.
  • May prepare test results or reports as directed.
  • May lock warehouse and set alarms.
  • Maintains an organized and clean work area.
  • Complies with all BRI environmental and safety policies and procedures.
  • Ensures proper care, safety, maintenance and usage of technology, equipment, and/or systems.
  • Receives and carries out instructions on specific assignment objectives.
  • Performs related work as assigned.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or GED required. Associates Degree in Chemistry or related field is preferred. Hands on previous experience in similar field. More than one year experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
  • Knowledge of the principles and techniques of reactions.
  • Ability to use interchangeably Metric and U.S. standards of weights and measures.
  • Knowledge of basic equipment operation and/or maintenance.
  • Knowledge of piping and valve operations to control processes.
  • Skill in the operation of reactor room and support equipment.
  • Ability to conduct gas chromatographic analyses.
  • Ability to prepare routine paperwork, record data and file as required. Computer data entry.
  • Ability to multitask while assisting other coworkers.
  • Maintains awareness of what is happening in the department/equipment and know what other staff members are working on.
  • A solid knowledge of the principles and techniques of organic and analytical chemistry and its relationship to production.
  • A solid knowledge of health, safety and regulatory related issues and its relationship to production issues.
  • Demonstrates good judgement by making quick but not hasty decisions, understanding the implications of those decisions, and quickly recognizing the priorities in an emergency or period of high stress.
  • Knowledge of plant utility systems with basic troubleshooting skills.
